Awesome young Clynelish matured in a first fill bourbon barrel.  I do not really want to open this - I paid too much at auction for this as the name made me laugh and I had a great night out at Whisky and Alement before COVID hit and thought this was one of the best young Clynelish I had ever tasted.

SMWS Tasting Notes : Lychee oozes from the lip of the glass. Then that old familiar cavalcade of fruit-tinged wax. White truffle oil, muesli, beach pebbles, wildflowers and pineapple syrup from a tin. Waxed canvas drapes over everything and then a cheeky wee fruit salad served on a coal shovel (no doubt by some dreadful hipster!) Water unlocks autolytic goodness like sourdough and animal furs. Then salted mead, mineral salts, juicy fruit chewing gum and pollens. The palate is similarly full of white stone fruits, lemon cough drops, coconutty gorse, herbal ointments, hessian and lemongrass. Fruity children’s medicines abound. With dilution comes yellow plum jam, salted caramel, toffee apple, medical embrocations and a big hug of fruity wax with a side order of herbal tea.

Review by The Tasting Brothers

Clynelish 8yo 2010-2019 (57.5%, SMWS, First Fill Bourbon Barrel, cask #26.134, 224 bottles

Colour: Straw with some shy white wine hues.
Nose: Way more fruits in this one! White and yellow fruits jam, grapes, violets, banana flavored candies, paraffin, waxy notes, rose petals jam, hints of black tea, chalk and mineral notes.
Mouth: The alcohol integration is perfect and the texture is oily. It’s very fruity and floral with a lot of minerality and wax too! Candied orange zest, ripe peaches, grapes adding some astringent notes too, apples, citruses, chalk, mineral notes, candle wax, rose petals, hints of violet, a veil of wood smoke
Finish: Long with way less fruits. It’s mainly mineral, dry and austere with also chalk, hints of floral notes and hints of candle wax.

As you can see there are nearly no flaw in there. It’s powerful, the alcohol integration is perfect, the balance is perfect and we also have some complexity which is very nice for a 8yo dram to be honest!

Score: 90
