It started production in 2013 becoming the first new Northern Irish distillery in 125 years. They are releasing their own whiskies now but many of their older age statement award winning whiskies, including this one, were distilled at Cooley and aged in refill Bourbon casks and then reracked into PX or Palo Cortado casks and at Echlinville.

Dunville's of Belfast at its closure the was the largest and most modern distillery in Ireland far surpassing Bushmills in terms of sales. Although hit hard by Prohibition in the US unlike other Old Irish distilleries it wasn't the cause of its closure. Several members of the Dunville family had died during the First World War both old and young fighting as officers in the trenches. Then the second son controlled the distillery but suddenly dropped dead at 38. All the sons had married into the Irish Aristocracy but the youngest didn't follow the families wishes and got a local girl near the distillery pregnant whom he married and he was banished to manage Barry sheep station in Nundle, NSW, Australia. When all the other heirs had died he was called back to Ireland from Australia, on his return within a very short time it appears he got another women pregnant, got divorced and then eloped to Winnipeg, Canada and didn't take control of the family company. Due to all this tragedy and prolonged lack of leadership, questions about ownership and breakdown in talks to sell the distillery to DCL (now Diageo) the distillery ended up closing despite at the time being possibly the only profitable distillery in Ireland. Now Dunvilles is back.

Official Notes:

Nose: Juicy raisins and dates with soft gunpowder tea and raspberry coulis.

Palate: Dried apple and pear, seared almond croissant and honey.
