This limited-edition release was initially matured in traditional oak ex-bourbon casks, then finished
in 50 litre Mulberry wood casks. This calculated risk yields the rewards of
the Mulberry’s unusual wood structure.
What is Mulberry wood?
Botanical Name: Morus alba
Origin: Asia
Growing Conditions: Warm climates and in elevations up to 4,000 metres.
Common uses: Best known for its leaves which are used in the production of silk. Mulberry leaves
are also used in traditional Chinese medicines and for tea in Korea. While the fruit can be used to
make wine.
The Timber: Hard, durable, straight grained and ring porous.
Cooperage: Kádár, Hungary.
Cask Size: 50 litre quarter casks.
Finishing time: Initially matured in traditional Bourbon Oak barrels, the whiskey
was then transferred to the 50 litre Mulberry casks. Fast maturing, given the size of cask and the
structure of the wood having relatively low density & high porosity, the whiskey spent between 3 &
8 months finishing in the unusual Mulberry casks to give a balanced final whiskey.
