Amrut Portonova Indian Single Malt 62.1% 30ml
Amrut Portonova Indian Single Malt 62.1% 30ml
This single malt is exotic and vibrant on both nose and palate. It delivers raisins, vanilla, cherry liqueur and spices with an effect that is extraordinarily smooth on the palate, even at full cask strength.
Amrut Portonova is matured first in new American oak and ex-bourbon casks, transferred to first-fill Portuguese Port pipes then finished in ex-bourbon.
NOSE: A thick pudding of a nose, fruit and caramel merge with elements of a caramelised apple pie.
TASTE: This is essentially a port pipe sandwich—and it shows. The spiced fruit is interwoven with caramel while the oaky saltiness reaches the palate.
FINISH: Long, massive oak finish with evidence of the virgin barrels arising. With exploration, a cocoa hue appears—finally, some muscovado sugars evolves to supplant the berry fruits.
About the Distillery
Amrut are the pioneers of Indian single malt whisky being the first to be made in India. Amrut or amrita is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as "nectar of the gods", "nectar of life", or "drink of the gods". The distillery sources its barley from the Himalayas and ages the whisky at an altitude of over 3,000 feet above sea level in Bangalore. In this climate, the angels take way more than their share as up to 15% ABV of the whisky is lost per year. The resulting spirit has netted Amrut with hundreds of awards around the globe.
