Glenallachie 13y/o 'This Charming Dram' Uncharted Whisky Company 50%ABV 30ml
Named after a Smiths song - 'This Charming Dram' comes from 'a hillside desolate' - Ben Rinnes a large wet hill that provides water for many distilleries. Outside the town of Aberlour - Glenallachie sits at the base of Benrinnes just down the hill from Benrinnes Distillery which shares a name with the hill. The freshwater streams and waterfalls of Benrinnes flow down to the Spey river to Glenfarclas valley on one side and on the other to a valley called Glenlivet.
This is a single cask Glenallachie matured exclusively for 13 years in a first fill sherry butt. This is a super rich sherry bomb. This is a stunner flavour-wise but the alcohol isn't well integrated and it is a bit hot - leave the dram for 5 minutes in the glass to breathe and settle and it becomes a deliciously decadent dram.
Nose
Rich, heady and very aromatic. Bold medjool dates, toffee, butterscotch and apricot accompany subtle spicing.
Palate
Starting with a huge blow of full-bodied spice and warmth. Rich rich rich sticky toffee caramel slowly meanders through the mouth. The sweetness gives way to citrus peel and a dry Christmas spice lingers long after the richness of dried dates and fruitiness melts.
Finish
The sweet savoury spice lingers on the palette for minutes following the dram leaving the palette ready for another.
