Legendary bottling of Ledaig from La Maison du Whisky. This was one of the first independent bottlings of peated Tobermory to hit Australia. Ledaig started being used as a brand name for peated Tobermory in 2007 but it wasn't until years later that the whisky really made an impact and started to become the favourite it is today for hard core whisky fans.
Notes from LMDW:
Nose : firm, powerful. The nose is especially mineral (slate, manganese) and equally medicinal (camphor) and peaty. Elegant and sophisticated peat reveals notes of candied apricot, smoke and charred wood. Later, spices (ginger, nutmeg) appear, giving it increased power
Palate : lively, dynamic. The attack must first be tamed to combat its sharpness. Peat and apricot continue their successful partnership. The mid-palate is initially herbaceous (cut hay, sage), before becoming exotic (persimmon, guava). Gaining in intensity, the peat becomes increasingly oily, pairing itself with saline, smoky notes. It lingers with notes of citrus fruit (orange, tangerine).
Overall : long, concentrated. Fresh fruit emerges: melon. Both fresh and firm, its juice spreads over the taste buds. The peat has become chalky, almost vanilla-like (oak). Its velvety tannins recall the slate notes of the nose. The retro-nasal olfaction presents a beautiful fruit liqueur enhanced by notes of gingerbread and rosemary. The empty glass is peaty, earthy and marine (seaweed, smoked fish).
