Loch Lomond Distillery has a variety of stills onsite designed to make a variety of single malts and single grain whiskies to make blends without having to source casks from other distilleries. There are traditional pot stills, column stills and a Lomond Still - invemted by Loch Lomond which is a still with copper plates in the neck of a pot still that that can be moved to change the character of the new make as needed. This whisky is a combination of a Loch Lomond 2009 refill hogshead and an Inchmurrin 2009 first fill hogshead. Loch Lomond was set up more to make components of blends and as a result some people have a love hate relationship as some single malt expressions are quite funky and can have some industrial chemical notes or have an overpowering note that works when used as a component of a blend but less so as a single malt. This is a single malt as its from a single distillery but this whisky takes two very different whiskies made on two very different stills and combines them to make a better fruit bomb of a whisky. Great job by Decadent drams.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Metal polish, olive oil, waxes and dried exotic fruits with various other fruit notes lurking beneath. Big, juicy, direct and really inviting!
Palate: A fruit bomb! Very tropical, very oily, great balance of natural sweetness and subtle spice, some more waxy and peppery notes, before more stunningly exotic and luscious fruits really take over everything.
Finish: Long and drenched in tropicality and pure fruit notes.
