Rumours are that this is the last Longrow Red. A series that started with a legal dispute between the lawyers of Angove Wines in South Australia and Springbank over the right to use the name Long Row as a brand name. In the end Angove Family Wines were going to lose and they had already invested a lot in the Long Row Trade mark in the US and other markets. The late Hedley Wright Chairman of Springbank didn't want to go to court and mutual friends the Grant family from Glenfarclas were friends with Angove Family Wines and spoke highly of them. So Hedley agreed to let them them use the name Long Row for wines in exchange for sending a container full of used Wine casks and he sent them a case of Springbank whisky. This led to the first Longrow Red - an Australian Shiraz Cask aged peated Springbank and a whole series of other Longrows aged mostly in Australian and NZ wine casks. Now everyone is using wine casks - especially STR wine casks and the price of casks and shipping them from various corners of the world has gone up massively in price. So the warehouses at Springbank currently don't have enough casks to release another Longrow Red in the short term if rumours are to be believed.
