This is an older bottling form 2019, the third release from Mackey made with Tasmanian Barley and triple distilled at Shene Estate Distillery. Now there is a triple distillation movement underway in Tasmania with Hunter Island and Transportation whisky taking inspiration from Irish whiskey traditions - these pioneer bottles from Mackey which were the first triple distilled whiskies in Australia are becoming scarce and highly collectable. Shene Estate Distillery is now part of the Lark Group so this whisky is now a part of history.
In classic Australian style, this whisky has absolutely rippled flavour out of its cask. However, while I was expecting spiky youth in the spirit and the abv, it drinks with a maturity and ease that belies these facts. I have since bought two bottles. Absolutely delicious and as good, if not better, than it’s Scotch peers
