Smith's Angaston Whisky 12y/o 2014 Muscat Cask 47%ABV 30ml

FROM 1936 TO THE MID-1970s  SAMUEL SMITH & SON SOLD A PRODUCT CALLED SMITH’S IMPERIAL VAT WHISKY. IT WAS THEREFORE A HISTORIC MOMENT WHEN IN 1997, SMITH’S FIRED UP THE OLD POT STILL AND RAN A CHARGE THROUGH TO PRODUCE THE ANGASTON SINGLE MALT WHISKY.

Two charges took place in 1998 and 2000, before the distillery was de-commissioned in 2001. It was then re-commissioned for a further five charges in 2011, 2014, 2017 2021 and 2024. Made from heavily roasted barley grown near Ardrossan on the Yorke Peninsula, this whisky is malted locally and double distilled at Yalumba in our historic 1931 pot still. Leaning on a traditional style, this whisky was matured in seasoned oak, followed by 4 years in a Muscat hogshead cask no. FH0116, once filled with our Antique Muscat. A rich and complex whisky, shaped slowly through years of careul maturation. 

Muscat Cask, Aged 12 Years: Finished in a more traditional format for whisky, an aged Muscat barrel. Dark honey in colour, it is rich and sweet on the nose with complex raisined fruits showing its Muscat heritage along with a rancio character reminiscent of an aged fortified, along with plentiful flavours of coffee and roasted almonds. On the palate it is rich, oily and mouthfilling with great length of flavour and consistency throughout the palate.

Muscat Cask, Aged 12 Years: This marks the third release from our 2011 distillation. Aged initially in a selection of casks for 10 years and then finished for 2 years in an ex-Muscat cask.
