Smith's Angaston Whisky 12y/o 2014 Sparkling Cask 46.7%ABV 30ml

FROM 1936 TO THE MID-1970s  SAMUEL SMITH & SON SOLD A PRODUCT CALLED SMITH’S IMPERIAL VAT WHISKY. IT WAS THEREFORE A HISTORIC MOMENT WHEN IN 1997, SMITH’S FIRED UP THE OLD POT STILL AND RAN A CHARGE THROUGH TO PRODUCE THE ANGASTON SINGLE MALT WHISKY.

Two charges took place in 1998 and 2000, before the distillery was de-commissioned in 2001. It was then re-commissioned for    a further five charges in 2011, 2014, 2017 2021 and 2024. From barley grown near Ardrossan and double distilled in Yalumba’s historic 1931 pot still, this release brings together tradition with a Smith’s flare. Matured in seasoned oak for 8 years before a four-year finish in a French oak sparkling wine barrique, it balances richness with remarkable freshness and length in every dram.

Sparkling Barrique, Aged 12 Years: Finished in an older sparkling barrique, with the colour coming from the oak, it is light amber in colour with plenty of cedar, spice, zesty citrus fruit and hints of fig and nutmeg. On the palate, it is rich and elegant with plentiful notes of crème brulee, a silky texture and beautiful long length of flavour. Vibrant and light with a feeling of effervescence that can only come from the barrel.
