Spirit of Yorkshire 5y/o Moscatel Cask#3054 Adelphi English Single Malt Whisky 48%ABV

This whisky was a fun and surprising bottle tasted at Whisky and Dreams - possibly my favourite from the event as I wasn't expecting a lot from a 5 year old English Whisky. It was bottled for the 30th Anniversary of Adelphi and is the first ever English Whisky they have bottled. Also it was fully matured in a Moscatel cask which is unusual as usually this cask type is used as a second cask finish. Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery have a range of Whiskies named Filey Bay named after the popular spot near the distillery where people go on holiday and pray that the one week of warm sunshine it receives falls during their visit. Now on the days its too cold, visitors to the beach can do a distillery tour instead...so the distillery is going to be busy. I read a review that this was non-chillfiltered (as is the case with all Adelphi bottlings) and that this is cask strength (which is usually the case with Adelphi also) but that seems unlikely as the whisky is young and at 48% it is quite low abv and a very common abv for bottlers to dilute whisky down too. Still need to confirm that this is cask strength. I did hear that North Star wait a bit longer now if a whisky is cask strength and exactly 46% because they did this once with a very old age statement whisky and nobody believed it was cask strength. Maybe this is just a case of a very unusual active cask that dropped to exactly 48%. Lovely sweet fruity note on the palate and a long finish with a great mouthfeel.
