Waterford Bannow Island 1.2 Single Malt Irish Whiskey 50%ABV 30ml / 50ml

An Irish Single Malt Whiskey from Waterford's single farm series. This series explores the concept of terroir or place in whisky - Bannow Island is on the southern coast of Ireland, south-east of Waterford and is now a peninsula as the sand dunes long ago filled the channel that separated the Island from the mainland. This flat windswept land, surrounded by sea, with rocky outcrops and sandy beaches - provides quite different barley growing conditions and sandy soil compared to other farms, so it is a great example to test how much impact barley and where it has grown has on the flavour of whiskey. This second release of 9000 bottles is made from barley exclusively from Bannow Island Farm. This is the same distillate as Bannow Island 1.1 but has spent a year longer maturing in the cask.

Official Tasting Notes:

Aromas of pears, green apples, salted toffee, toasted barley and vanilla on the nose, as well as vanilla, white grapes and white pepper. The palate offers notes of apple crumble, cinnamon, toffee, lime zest and ginger, followed by butterscotch, white grapes and white pepper.
