Wild River Queensland Two Grain Whiskey Small Batch #2 45%ABV 30ml

I first bought Wild River Single Malt Elevation batch 4 as a novelty as I had only tried one other Queensland whisky. I was so surprised at how good it was- lots of complexity, a distinct character with a super juicy mouth feel. Not over powered by heavy cask influence even though it was matured exclusively in Shiraz casks. After that i ordered batch 5 Single Malt and at an auction got this early second release. I thought it was Elevation Single Malt Batch 2 but I was careless reading the label. This is Small Batch 2 an earlier bottle and it is a Whiskey with an 'e' as it contains corn as well as malted barley. I'm not usually a fan on whisky with corn in the mash bill - but with Wild River I'm learning that I need a more open mind as they are doing great work up in the mountains of North Queensland.

This small batch Australian whiskey is produced from locally grown Atherton Tablelands corn and Australian malted barley. With a mash bill of 40% corn and 60% barley, the whiskey was aged for 2 years in a re-coopered 50L ex-shiraz American oak barrel.
