Wolfburn 10y/o 46%ABV 30ml

This is the first 10 year old from Wolfburn which heavily marketed itself at launch as the most northerly mainland Scottish distillery stealing that tagline from Old Pulteney. Alas, 8 Doors Distillery has recently been built at John O'Groats which is pretty much the most Northerly point possible to build unless someone buys John O'Groats campsite. 8 Doors is still a few years from releasing any Whisky so for the time being Wolfburn is the most northerly distilled mainland Scotch available.

Wolfburn was a little hasty rushing whiskies to market for cashflow and many were not great but there were a few great single casks including an Australian exclusive that were great and hinted at the potential of this distillery. This expression still tastes a bit young and has a bit of heat on the finish. Wolfburn has just released a 12 year old and a few limited releases that have caused a buzz - maturing whisky in the far north of Scotland requires patience and it may be that Wolfburn really shines at 12 years and older. For people that have followed this distillery this whisky is a significant milestone and worth trying.
