Bunnahabhain 18y/o 46.3%abv 30ml

The classic unpeated Islay malt. Despite marketing that hints to the contrary, most of the whisky produced on Islay is matured in modern warehouses on the mainland because there isn't enough room on the Island. Bunnahabhain 18y/o is different - its unpeated and matured exclusively in Sherry casks on the island in warehouses lapped by the sea - so if marketing mentions a hint of coastal salt it didn't pick it up on the Calmac ferry. Its also natural coloured and non-chill-filtered. The abv has crept upwards too - so in my book this is the only Classic Core range Islay Malt that has improved - unlike Ardbeg or Laphroaig you will not hear me waxing lyrical about past core range bottles of 18y/o Bunnahabhain because the golden age of Bunna is right now. 

Official Tasting Notes:

Nose: Fragrant with notes of dried fruit, rich honeyed nuts, toffee and slight hints of spice.
Palate: Notes of mellow sherried nuts, dried fruit and rich oak, with toffee and a slight tang of salt from its maturation of 18yrs at the coast.
Finish: A dry fruit finish with a hint of spice and salt.
