several of Glenfiddich's warehouse's roofs collapsed under the weight of the snow. The exposed casks were subject to temperatures as low as -19 degree celsius. All the distillery staff worked through the night to salvage whisky from the damaged casks and the result was a vatting of whiskies ranging from 12 to 30 years of age and multiple different cask finishes.  Some of the profits from whisky sales went to the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team in recognition of others that work to save lives (or whisky) in extreme conditions. The resulting whisky tastes different to the usual house style but whisky fans love a good story and a legendary name and a tale of overcoming adversity really resonated. One of 12000 bottles. It was released at a very cheap price for a limited edition and it sold out rapidly. The hype really kicked in as people that had bought bottles for $100 were selling them for up to $1000 6 months later. Is it worth the hype? No, of course not, but the whisky is one of the best Glenfiddich have made in recent years and it is a great story and piece of Scotch whisky history.
